Every animal dealer shall maintain possession of each dog or cat received for a period of at least 10 days after initial receipt of the dog or cat, unless the dealer:\n(1) Returns the dog or cat to its rightful owner; or\n(2) Delivers the dog or cat to an animal shelter. [1991 c.837 §6]
