Section 9351 - Financial support for libraries authorized

(a) Municipalities empowered to support libraries.--The municipal officers of a municipality may establish a local library or aid in the maintenance of a local library established by deed, gift or testamentary provision for the use of the residents of the municipality through: (1) Appropriations out of current revenue of the municipality. (2) Money raised by the levy of a special library tax. (b) Special library tax.-- (1) A special library tax may be: (i) levied on the taxable property of the municipality; or (ii) levied and collected with the general taxes. (2) A special library tax may not be levied on residents of a municipality which appropriates funds or levies a tax for the support of a local library that is located within the municipality but is not a part of the direct service area of a county library. (3) Imposition of a special library tax shall not prevent a municipality from also making appropriations for library purposes. (4) Income from a special library tax shall be used for the support and maintenance of the local library. Cross References. Section 9351 is referred to in section 9318 of this title.
