Section 1154 - Law enforcement use of county correctional institutions

(a) General rule.--Sheriffs, constables, members of the Pennsylvania State Police and other persons authorized by the laws of this Commonwealth to make arrests shall have the use, for a period not to exceed 48 hours, of borough and township lockups and county correctional institutions for the detention of persons arrested until they can be disposed of according to law, if found necessary by the officer in charge. (b) Reimbursement.-- (1) Boroughs, cities and townships are entitled to receive compensation of not more than $2 per day of 24 hours, for each prisoner detained under subsection (a), from the treasury of the county having jurisdiction over the person detained. (2) This subsection does not apply to counties of the second class.
