Section 1161 - Return of escaped inmates

(a) General rule.--In all cases where an inmate, after an escape from a State correctional institution, is apprehended or arrested by any officer having authority to make such arrest, the officer shall notify the State correctional institution from which the escape was made. The State correctional institution shall notify the department or the Pennsylvania State Police, which shall immediately send an officer or officers to return the inmate to the State correctional institution. (b) Expenses.--All necessary expenses incurred by the officer or officers in returning an escaped inmate to the State correctional institution shall be borne by the State correctional institution from which the escape was made, which expenses shall be refunded to the county correctional institution or the Pennsylvania State Police whose officer or agent makes the return.
