The Secretary of Education is directed to prepare and establish in the rural schools of Puerto Rico and in the schools of the urban zone, where general conditions permit, in addition to those subjects which he deems indispensable for the general culture of the people, an additional simple course of instruction in agriculture, which shall embrace, elementarily, the following subjects:(a) Theoretical and practical demonstration of the advantages of modern methods of cultivation.(b) Intensive cultivation of the soil and advantage of deep plowing.(c) Selection of seeds and introduction of new varieties.(d) Easy methods by which to ascertain the kind of soil, its acidity and the manner of neutralizing it by the use of lime.(e) Intelligent use of chemical fertilizers and the advantageous use of waste from farms as fertilizing material.(f) Advantage of alternation and rotation of crops.(g) Elementary ideas of horticulture, agriculture, the livestock industry, climatology and agricultural accounting.(h) Importance of conservation of forests and reforestation; its influence on the climate and on the humidity of the soil; its relation to domestic economy.
