It shall be the duty of the Director of the Archive periodically to investigate the archives of the municipalities of the Commonwealth and to transfer to the archive any document of a historical or political nature which he may find therein, leaving a certified copy of the same. Such expenses as these trips, if necessary, shall occasion, shall be paid from funds of the Commonwealth Treasury, upon proper voucher therefor.
