There shall be no limitation what[so]ever as to the nature or kind of the literary works entitled to enjoy the prizes hereby established, books of verse, plays, novels, histories, or critical, historical, political, social, juridic and economic essays being equally eligible, as well as works on scientific, social and pedagogical investigations.Writers interested in competing for the prizes shall send, on or before December of each year, five (5) duly printed copies of each one of the works they wish to submit to the judgment of the said Institute of Puerto Rican Literature; Provided, That in awarding the said prize, said Institute may, on its own initiative, consider any work published in Puerto Rico although not sent to the said Institute by said author.
