Every person who knowingly throws or places, or causes to be thrown or placed, in any river, stream, canal or other running water, or any lake, or into the sea within ten miles of the shore, the carcass of an animal which has died of disease, or which has been slaugtered as diseased, or suspected of disease, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of not exceeding two hundred dollars ($200), or imprisonment for one month in jail, or to both fine and imprisonment.
