The Secretary of Agriculture may transfer, free of charge or at a lesser price, the farm cattle products he may acquire to government, commonwealth and municipal institutions, when in his judgment the public interest so requires, due to low prices or other unfavorable economic factors in the marketing of such products, when it is impossible to store same due to their perishable nature, when their storage is not advisable or feasible for their future sale due to the high costs incurred in said storage. Likewise, in agreement with the Secretary of the Family and with the approval of the Governor, he may donate any quantity of the products acquired to needy families, in accordance with the norms of assistance to families of scarce resources in force, as approved by the Department of the Family.\nHistory —June 21, 1971, No. 53, p. 164, § 7, eff.
