Marshals shall be acquainted and comply strictly with the provisions of the law regulating their duties toward the jury. While the jury is under the custody of a marshal, the latter shall refrain from speaking to the jurors on the merits of the case under consideration and shall not permit any person to communicate with them. Likewise, it is the duty of the marshal who has the custody of a jury to inform the judge presiding [at] the trial of any activity contrary to the orders or instructions of the court.
