Any person who, without lawful cause, fails to appear, upon being summoned by any of the officials mentioned in § 335 of this title, or who refuses to give testimony or to produce the books, registers, documents or objects required of him shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, upon conviction by the Court of First Instance, be punished by a maximum fine of one thousand dollars ($1,000) or by imprisonment for a maximum term of one (1) year.
