The notary may appoint another notary to substitute for him/her when he/she is absent from his/her office for any nonpermanent cause, for a maximum initial period of three (3) months. Said period may be extended after having so requested to the Director of the Notarial Inspection Office in exceptional cases and when there is a just cause, up to a maximum term of six (6) months.\nThe notary as well as his/her substitute shall notify the Notarial Inspection Office of the appointment, as provided for through regulations.\nThe substitute notary shall not authorize original documents in the name of the substituted notary.
