It shall be illegal for any person to interfere with, move, damage or destroy a barrier, barricade, or any sign placed on the highway by the Department or by a municipality, contractor, subcontractor, public agency or other person performing works on the highway with a permit and authorization of the Department. Likewise, it shall be illegal for any person to disobey the instructions, signals, warnings or marks of any sign placed on a highway or street or on a barrier, unless otherwise ordered by the Police. This does not include the officers and employees of the Department, or a contractor or agency authorized by the Department that has to enter the area where the work is being performed.\nViolation of the provisions of this section shall be a misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100) or imprisonment in jail for a term of not more than thirty (30) days, or both penalties, in the discretion of the court. The person so convicted shall, in addition, pay for the damages caused to the highway, work, signs and safety devices.
