Officials and employees to whom §§ 610—612 of this title are applicable and who may decide to avail themselves of their benefits, shall, in the case of persons already in service, address a petition for such purpose to the corresponding Retirement System not later than thirty (30) days from the effective date of this act; and in the case of persons who are appointed subsequent to the effective date of this act, not later than thirty (30) days from the effective date of this act; and in the case of persons who are appointed subsequent to the effective date of this act, not later than thirty (30) days from the date of appointment.
