For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meaning stated hereinbelow:(a) Communication. — Means any information regarding a debt, sent directly or indirectly to any person through any means.(b) Debtor. — Means any person legally bound to pay a debt.(c) Creditor. — Means any natural or juridical person holding a claim for money, except for assignees who acquire outstanding debts for the sole purpose of expediting the collection thereof, who shall be deemed as debt collectors for the purposes of this chapter.(d) Debt. — Means any legal obligation of a debtor which consists of a loan of money.(e) Debt collector. — Means any natural or juridical person engaging mainly in collecting the debts of others. This includes assignees as well as those persons who act on behalf of third party to collect a debt. This does not include lawyers in the course of his/her professional practices which does not constitute a violation of other laws. History —Sept. 3, 1996, No. 179, § 2.
