Every natural or [juridical] person who imports coffee into Puerto Rico after this act takes effect and who fails to pay the duties prescribed in § 2201 of this title, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred (100) nor more than one thousand (1,000) dollars and three months in jail; for the second violation, he shall be punished by a fine of not less than one thousand (1,000) nor more than five thousand (5,000) dollars and one year in jail; and for the third violation he shall be punished by a fine of not less than five thousand (5,000) nor more than ten thousand (10,000) dollars and two years in jail.\nHistory —May 5, 1931, No. 77, p. 474, § 3; Apr. 28, 1933, No. 28, p. 248; Apr. 9, 1934, No. 7, p. 206.
