Disobedience of a subpoena, or a refusal to be sworn, or to testify as a witness, may be punished by the court as a crime of contumacy or contempt. Any witness who disobeys a subpoena issued by petition of the defendant, unless he shows good cause for failing to appear, is liable to the defendant for the sum of one hundred (100) dollars, which may be recovered through a civil suit.\nHistory —Code Crime.
