If a person in any state which, by its laws, has made provision for commanding persons within its borders to attend and testify in criminal prosecutions in Puerto Rico is a material witness in a prosecution for felony pending in the Court of First Instance of Puerto Rico, the judge of such court may issue a certificate under the seal of the court stating these facts and specifying the number of days the witness will be required. This certificate shall be presented to a judge of a court of record in the country in which the witness is found.\nIf the witness is summoned to attend and testify in criminal prosecution in this Commonwealth, he shall be paid the sum of ten (10) cents a mile for each mile traveled by the ordinary routes to and from the court, and five (5) dollars for each day that he is required to travel and attend as a witness. A witness who has appeared in accordance with the provisions of the summons shall not be required to remain in Puerto Rico for a longer period of time than the period mentioned in the certificate.\nHistory —May 13, 1934, No. 60, p. 416, § 2, eff. 90 days after May 13, 1934.
