For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meaning stated hereinbelow:\n(a) Institute.— The Puerto Rico Institute of Forensic Sciences.\n(b) Board.— The Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Institute of Forensic Sciences.\n(c) Director.— The Director of the Puerto Rico Institute of Forensic Sciences.\n(d) Forensic scientist.— Any person who has received a post-graduate academic degree specializing in the scientific analysis of evidence used in criminal investigation by the Criminal Justice System, as established by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS).\nHe/she must also have at least three (3) years of practical experience in the expert analysis of such evidence in a forensic institution whose operational practices are in accordance with those established by accrediting agencies.\nHistory —July 24, 1985, No. 13, p. 689, § 2; Dec. 29, 2009, No. 200, § 1.
