As long as the thing given in pledge is not taken by eminent domain, the debtor continues to be the owner thereof.\nNevertheless, the creditor may exercise the actions which pertain to the owner of the thing pledged, in order to reclaim or defend it against a third person.\nHistory —Civil Code, 1930, § 1768.
