The Supreme Court and the Court of First Instance of Puerto Rico shall have authority to punish a contempt against their authority by imprisonment not exceeding the period of thirty (30) days in the local jail nearest to such court, or by a fine not exceeding two hundred dollars ($200), or by both such fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of such court. The District Court and any other court of record and the Industrial Commission of Puerto Rico shall have authority to punish a contempt of court, as hereinbefore described, directed against such court, by a fine in a sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars ($25), and in case of default in payment of such fine, the person adjudged guilty of such contempt may be imprisoned in the local jail nearest to such court, for not more than the period of twenty (20) days.
