The penalty of fines set forth in the special criminal laws consists of the obligation to pay to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico a sum of money fixed by the sentence that the court imposes upon the convicted person.\nIn addition to the criteria established in the special laws, the sum of the fines shall be determined by the court taking into consideration the financial situation, the family responsibilities, the degree of greed or profit shown in the commission of the criminal act, the profession or occupation of the sentenced person, his/her age and health, as well as the particular circumstances of the case, among others.\nHistory —June 18, 2004, No. 149, § 56, eff.
