The referees, or a majority of them, may demand the appearance of any person as witness and that he bring with him any books, records, documents, or other evidence. The fees for said appearance shall be the same as those of the witnesses in the Court of First Instance of Puerto Rico, and shall be paid by the parties requesting such appearances.\nThe referees, or any of them, may issue and sign subpoenas to witnesses, which shall be addressed to the person and served in the same manner as the summonses to testify before any court of record in Puerto Rico. If any person so summoned to give testimony, refuses or fails to obey said summons, the court may, on petition of the referees or a majority of them, compel said person to appear or punish said person for contempt, in the manner provided for the appearance of witnesses in the courts of Puerto Rico.\nHistory —May 8, 1951, No. 376, p. 896, § 16, eff. 90 days after May 8, 1951.
