The Office of the Inspector General of the Government of Puerto Rico is hereby created, attached to the Office of the Governor, in order to coordinate and improve government efforts to foster integrity and efficiency in the use and management of public funds, to prevent fraud and corruption.\nDue to the sensitive nature of its functions, the Office shall be an autonomous entity and operate independently from all other government agencies, departments, and entities.\nThe Office shall have access to information and documents related to the budget and of all agencies and corporations of the Executive Branch. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the Office of Government Ethics of Puerto Rico and the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico, in order to reiterate the public policy regarding administrative independence, which is indispensable to carry out the delicate functions entrusted to such agencies.\nHistory —Apr. 16, 2010, No. 42, § 4.
