(a) It is hereby provided that, as of July 1, 1998, every person appointed to hold a position as a regular or confidential employee or official in the Government of Puerto Rico, its agencies, corporations and instrumentalities, except for those municipal governments that do not provide direct deposit services, shall receive his/her salary payment through direct biweekly deposit to a bank account in the financial institution designated by the employee, unless he/she requests to receive the same in check.(b) The direct biweekly deposit of all salary payments to the employee shall be made pursuant to the requirements established by the agency in which he/she shall take office and to the standards provided through regulations by the Secretary of the Department of the Treasury regarding direct deposit through electronic transfer.
