Any violation of the laws administered by the agencies or the regulations issued thereunder shall be penalized by administrative fines which shall not exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000) for each violation.\nIn the event that the special law in question only provides criminal sanctions the head of the agency, at his option, may file an administrative complaint under this section to process the case administratively.\nIf the special law in question provides an administrative penalty which exceeds the one established in this section, the agency may impose the higher penalty.\nHistory —Aug. 12, 1988, No. 170, § 7.1, eff. 6 months after Aug. 12, 1988.
