For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms and phrases shall have the meaning stated below:\n(a) Morbid obesity. — The excess of fat in the body as determined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) equal to or higher than 35.\n(b) Bariatric surgery. — A surgical procedure to control obesity, which may be performed by employing any of four (4) techniques: gastric bypass, adjustable band, intragastric balloon or sleeve gastrectomy. The intragastric balloon surgery shall not be covered.\nHistory —Aug. 9, 2008, No. 212, § 1, eff. 90 days after Aug. 9, 2008.
