The names of the municipalities existing on the date of approval of this act shall not be changed or modified, except as authorized by this subtitle. When a municipality is suppressed, the name of the municipality to which the territory of the abolished municipality is attached shall prevail.\nWhen a municipality is created, its enabling act shall not change the proper name of the place where the new municipality is constituted, unless there are cultural, historic or traditional circumstances that justify a different name.\nHistory —Aug. 30, 1991, No. 81, § 1.009.
