The mayor shall be elected by the direct vote of the corresponding municipality’s qualified electors in each general election.\nThe mayor shall hold said office for the term of four (4) years counted from the second Monday in January of the year following the general election in which he/she is elected, and shall hold office until his successor takes office.\nWhen the mayor-elect does not take office on the date provided above in this subtitle, he/she shall be granted an additional term of fifteen (15) days to give oath and assume his/her office.\nHistory —Aug. 30, 1991, No. 81, § 3.002.
