The purpose of this chapter is to assure that health insurance benefits and disability income protection coverage are contractually guaranteed so as to prevent the conflict of interest that occurs when health insurance organizations or issuers have discretionary authority to decide what benefits are due. Nothing in this chapter shall be construed as imposing any requirement or duty on any person other than a health insurance organization or issuer that offers disability income protection coverage.\nHistory —Aug. 29, 2011, No. 194, § 12.020, eff. 180 days after Aug. 29, 2011.
