The owner of every merchandise and his agent shall be jointly responsible for the payment of every indebted sum on the merchandise under the provisions of this chapter. The judicial claim for the indebted sum on any merchandise unloaded in Puerto Rico and lifted from the dock shall constitute a lien on the merchandise with preference over any other except for taxes. Action for this lien shall expire after the lapse of six (6) months from and after the date in which the debt has been settled and demandable.\nHistory —June 28, 1968, No. 151, p. 459, § 5, art. 5.10, eff. 90 days after June 28, 1968.
