(a) The benefits payable to teachers under this chapter shall be those benefits provided in chapter 10 of title 36 and as provided in this chapter with and subject, however, to the conditions and modifications set forth in §§ 16-16-12 through 16-16-14, and also the benefits provided in subsection (b) of this section. (b) If the teacher member of the retirement system dies, either prior to or after his or her effective date of retirement, any amounts credited to him or her in the teachers’ survivors benefit fund, as provided in this chapter, with regular accumulated interest on the amount, shall be applied toward the financing of those benefits for dependents and survivors of the member as defined in this chapter, and in amounts provided in this chapter.
