There is hereby established in the general fund a separate account to be known as the 'basic health plan trust account', to which shall be deposited any surplus revenues which are approved by the governor and general assembly for this purpose. All moneys now or hereafter in the basic health plan trust account are hereby dedicated for the purpose of providing health insurance to the uninsured in this state. The department of health is charged with the administration of this fund to subsidize the purchase of basic health care benefits for low income Rhode Islanders. The amount of money credited to the basic health plan trust account shall not exceed three million dollars ($3,000,000) per fiscal year. All claims against the fund shall be examined, audited, and allowed in the manner now or hereafter provided by law for claims against the state. History of Section.P.L. 1990, ch. 271, § 2.
