§ 45-21-10

It is the duty of each participating municipality to submit to the retirement board a statement showing the name, title, compensation, duties, date of birth, and length of service of each member, and any other information that the retirement board requires. The retirement board shall then classify each member in one of the following groups: (1) Group 1. Laborers, mechanics, and workers engaged in duties requiring principally physical exertion; and clerical, administrative, professional, and technical workers engaged in duties requiring principally mental exertion; (2) Group 2. Members of the fire department of the participating municipality and members of the police department of the participating municipality; (3) Or in any other group which may be recommended by the actuary on the basis of the service and mortality experience and approved by the retirement board.
