When a person is charged by an agent or inspector of the division with a criminal offense for which a magistrate's court has jurisdiction, the person charged, upon being served with the official summons issued by the agent or inspector, must appear before the proper judicial officer at the time and place stated in the summons. The service of the summons vests the court with jurisdiction to hear and dispose of the charge for which the summons was issued. HISTORY: 1996 Act No. 415, Section 1.
