1-8-4. Deputy secretary of state--Appointment and oath--Duties.The secretary of state may appoint a deputy secretary of state, whose appointment shall be evidenced by a certificate under the official seal of the state, and continue during his pleasure. The deputy secretary so appointed, before entering upon the duties of his office, shall take and subscribe the usual oath of office required by the Constitution, which appointment and oath shall be filed in the Office of the Secretary of State. In case of the absence or disability of the secretary of state, the deputy secretary of state shall perform the duties required by law of the secretary. Source: SDC 1939, §55.1209; SL 1985, ch 5, §2.
