Commercial motor vehicles licensed to dealers--Dealer 88 license plates--Return of plates--Violation as misdemeanor.The department shall issue metal numerical license plates to licensed vehicle dealers upon application and payment of the gross weight tonnage fees pursuant to §32-9-15 at the time of annual renewal for each set desired. The license plates shall be numbered consecutively and shall bear as a prefix the number 88. If a dealer's license is revoked or canceled or the dealer goes out of business, the 88 plates shall be returned to the department. If any motor vehicle is operated with 88 plates after the dealer license is revoked or canceled or after the dealer goes out of business, or if the dealer refuses to return the plates, the dealer is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.
