Persons holding academic degrees exempt.Nothing contained in this chapter shall be construed to prevent a person holding the doctorate degree in philosophy, education, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, veterinary science, psychology, or any academic field, from appending to his name the word 'doctor' or any contraction thereof, when such degree has been bestowed by a reputable institution.
