Commission members--Appointment and terms.The commission consists of the mayor of Pierre or the mayor's designee, one member of the House of Representatives appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives, one member of the Senate appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate, and seven members appointed by the Governor. The member appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives and the member appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate are appointed for a term of two years. The members appointed by the Governor are appointed for a term of four years and may not all be of the same political party. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy arising from other than the natural expiration of a term shall serve for only the unexpired portion of the term.
