A division of public libraries and archives is hereby created within, and administratively attached to, the office of the secretary of state. The authority, powers, and duties formerly vested by law in the commissioner of education shall be vested in the secretary of state and are to be administered through and by the division of public libraries and archives. The division shall have transferred and attached to it:(1) The office of state historian; and(2) All historical and memorial commissions and associations created by act of the general assembly and expending public funds, for purposes of administration, except the Tennessee historical commission.Acts 1959, ch. 9, § 12; 1975, ch. 143, § 2; T.C.A., § 10-101; Acts 1982, ch. 689, § 1; 1984, ch. 728, § 2; 2008, ch. 631, § 2.
