Section 39-17-104 - Safety devices on refrigerators required

(a) All new iceboxes or refrigerators that have a capacity of one and one-half (11/2) cubic feet or more, and an opening of fifty (50) square inches or more, and that have a door or lid equipped with a latch or other fastening device capable of securing the door or lid shut, sold or offered for sale in this state shall be equipped with a safety device that will enable the door or lid to be opened easily from the inside as a means of escape. Failure to abide by this provision is an offense.(b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1.
