Section 40-38-116 - Victim's right to a speedy trial

(a) In any criminal proceeding in which a continuance is requested, the court shall consider the victim's views and the victim's right to a speedy trial. If the continuance is granted over the victim's objection, the court shall state on the record the reason for the continuance and the procedures that have been taken to avoid further delays.(b) In determining a date for any criminal trial or other important criminal hearing, the court shall consider the interests of the victim's right to a speedy trial.Acts 2000, ch. 804, § 1.
