Section 54-10-103 - Classification of roads

(a) The county legislative bodies shall classify the public roads in the counties, but shall not divide them into more than four (4) classes of widths, as described in § 54-10-104, and shall specify in each class the width of roadbed between ditches and the distance between fences, which dimensions shall be within § 54-10-104, and which classification shall be entered of record in the office of the county clerk in a book to be kept for that purpose.(b) Before the county legislative body may classify a road as provided in this section, the chief administrative officer of the county highway department shall submit a listing of all county roads to the county legislative body. The listing shall include a summary of all changes from the road listing submitted previously. The summary shall provide the road name, date the change was approved by the county legislative body and the reason for the change, including, but not limited to, opening, closing, reduction or extension in length, or correction of error.
