Section 55-10-210 - License plate flippers prohibited - Section definitions - Penalties

(a) As used in this section, 'license plate flipper' means a manual, electronic, or mechanical device designed or adapted to be installed on a motor vehicle that either: (1) Alternates between two (2) or more license plates for the purpose of allowing a motor vehicle operator to change the license plate displayed on the operator's vehicle; or(2) Hides a license plate from view by flipping the plate, making the license number not visible.(b) A person commits an offense if a person acts with criminal negligence, as defined in § 39-11-106, and purchases or possesses a license plate flipper.(c) A person commits an offense if a person acts with criminal negligence, as defined in § 39-11-106, and manufactures, sells, offers to sell, or otherwise distributes a license plate flipper.(d)(1) An offense under subsection (b) is a Class B misdemeanor.(2) An offense under subsection (c) is a Class A misdemeanor.Added by 2024 Tenn.
