Section 55-5-107 - Identification numbers - Method of installation

(a) The identification numbers required by § 55-5-106 shall be placed upon the passenger car and components required to be numbered in a permanent manner so that any attempt to remove, alter, deface, obliterate or destroy them will be ascertainable.(b) The permanent manner required by §§ 55-5-106 - 55-5-110 may be by any suitable manufacturing process that will result in the number becoming a permanent part of the passenger car or component. They shall be of a height and width easily readable by the naked eye. They may consist of letters, numbers, digits or any combination of them.(c) The identification numbers required by § 55-5-106 may be in accordance with recommended practices approved by the Society of Automotive Engineers as to material, lettering, manufacturing and installation.(d) The identification numbers required by § 55-5-106 shall be placed upon the passenger car and required component parts by the manufacturer.Acts 1968, ch. 603, § 3; T.C.A., § 59-507.
