Section 56-27-133 - Sterilization insurance provision

(a) Any law to the contrary notwithstanding, no contract of insurance that provides coverage for sterilization operations or procedures may be entered into or renewed on or after July 1, 1971, if the contract imposes any disclaimer, restriction on, or limitation of coverage with respect to the insured's reason for sterilization. All contracts entered into or renewed on or after July 1, 1971, shall be construed to be in compliance with this section, and any provision in any contract that is in conflict with this section shall be of no force or effect.(b) If any contract of insurance entered into prior to July 1, 1971, provides coverage for a sterilization operation or procedure, that part of the insurance contract covering the sterilization operation or procedure shall not be cancelled by the insurer unless the cancellation coincides with cancellation of the entire policy.Acts 1971, ch. 400, § 3; T.C.A., § 56-2933.
