Tennessee Legal Code
(a) Unless otherwise specified in an advance directive, a person then authorized to make health care decisions for a patient has the same rights as the patient to request, receive, examine, copy, and consent to the disclosure of medical or any other health care information.(b) A health care provider shall provide to a patient or a patient's authorized representative a copy of such patient's medical records within ten (10) working days of receipt of a written request by the patient or the patient's authorized representative. The health care provider may provide a summary of such patient's medical records, at the option of the health care provider, but the provision of a summary does not satisfy the patient's or representative's right to receive, or serve as a substitute for, a full medical record under this subsection (b).Amended by 2024 Tenn.
