There is created and established, as of July 1, 1947, a retirement system for state employees to be known as the 'Tennessee state retirement system.' It shall transact all business as provided for in chapters 34 to 36, inclusive, of this title under said name, shall have all the powers and privileges of a corporation, and shall function as hereinafter provided.Acts 1947, ch. 231, § 2; C.
