Section 49-1543 - Service retirement

(a) Any member who files an executed written application to the board of trustees shall be entitled to receive a service retirement allowance to commence on his effective date of retirement, provided that as of such date: (1) He shall have been in service upon or after attaining age sixty (60), or(2) He shall have reached age sixty (60) and completed at least ten (10) years of creditable service, or four (4) years of creditable service for any member in an institution of higher learning, or(3) He shall have completed at least thirty (30) years of creditable service. Such member shall designate his effective date of retirement in his application to the board. His effective date of retirement can be any date within ninety (90) days before or after the date his application is filed with the board, provided such effective date of retirement follows the date of his separation from service.(b) Any member who has attained the age of sixty-five (65) years shall be retired at the end of the school year unless the employer requests such person to remain in the service, and notice of this request is given in writing to the board of trustees within thirty (30) days prior to the end of the
