(a) The department shall mark with a historical name a farm-to-market or ranch road that follows a historical route if:(1) a county historical commission applies to the Texas Historical Commission and the department for the marking of the road; and(2) the Texas Historical Commission certifies that the name has been in common usage in the area for at least 50 years.(b) The evidence to support a certification under Subsection (a) must:(1) be submitted by the county historical commission applying for the designation; and(2) include an affidavit from each of at least five longtime residents of the area.(c) The department shall prepare and install signs along the road that indicate the road's historical name. The county historical commission applying for the designation shall pay the cost of preparing the signs. Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
